Why Did You Create an Online Word Counter?
I created a word count because there were no easy ways for me to quickly count words online. I felt many people would like an online tool for counting words without having to download anything, especially since many new computers don't have Office installed.
Some sites allow you to input text into their site and then analyze it but they tend to limit you in what they can do with your text, they aren't free, or they aren't web-based. I think my website is a much easier way of doing things compared to other options out there. Check it out!

How Does Your Online Word Counter Work?
There are several ways you can count words online for free. First, you can count words on Google Docs by copying a document into a new tab, highlighting all text in that tab, then doing Ctrl+F (or Command+F on Mac) to bring up a search tool that will tell you how many times each word has been used.
This is what’s known as an online word counter, which is software that runs inside your web browser. However, while it’s certainly possible to run such software locally—meaning inside your own computer—it takes time and processing power. It may even slow down your computer or tablet if there’s not enough memory available.
What Can I Use This Online Tool For?
If you have to count words for your assignment, there are many ways that you can go about it. Is There Any Other Way to Get The Words to Count?
Is there any other way to get word count on Google Docs? Actually, yes, there is an easier way. Rather than go through your document one line at a time and use add-ons for your browser, use Google Docs’ built-in word counter feature!
This method of counting words online is absolutely free and much more efficient than visiting a website or installing add-ons. So why not save yourself some trouble? Here’s how it works: Go to Tools > Word Count in your document. As long as you have the right to edit, you can click that button.
Then, when you do, a pop-up window will appear with your total word count! That’s all there is to it. It really couldn't be simpler. Just remember that if you don't have access to edit something, you won't be able to see its word count—so make sure everyone who needs access has given their permission before using these tools.
What About Paid Tools Like Hemingway Editor or Grammarly?
Google Docs has a built-in word counter. Just open your Google Doc, select Tools, then Word Count. There's even a shortcut key you can use (CTRL+Shift+C). Unfortunately, Grammarly only counts words in English.
And as for Hemingway Editor, it doesn't count anything—it just makes suggestions about ways to change sentences so they're easier to read. It's like having an editor standing over your shoulder telling you what you should do with every sentence instead of just giving advice about big-picture changes. All those things combined make Google Docs' word counter a better option for most people.
